About Electrolysis

Electrolysis is a method of permanent hair removal that uses a fine probe to deliver a tiny electrical energy into individual hair follicles. This process disables the follicle at the root, preventing future hair growth.

Below are the different electrolysis modalities:

1. Galvanic

This is the original form of electrolysis: slow, steady, and extremely effective.

Chemical electrolysis uses a low-level electrical current to create a natural chemical reaction inside the hair follicle. This reaction produces lye, which permanently destroys the follicle’s ability to grow hair.

Best for:

  • Deep or distorted follicles.

  • Very coarse or curly hair.

  • Ingrown hairs.

  • Hormonal hair growth.

What to know:

  • It’s the slowest method, but also one of the most thorough.

  • Often used when other methods are not giving us the results we are hoping for.

  • Excellent for stubborn or problem hairs.

  • Can be used on all hair types.

  • This method is safe to use on tattoos.

2. Thermolysis

Thermolysis uses heat to destroy the hair follicle and is the most commonly used method today.

A short burst of energy heats the follicle just enough to disable it, making this method much faster than chemical electrolysis.

Best for:

  • Large areas.

  • Fine to medium hair.

  • Clients who want quicker sessions.

What to know:

  • Very efficient.

  • Sensation is brief and localized.

3. The Blend Method

As the name suggests, the blend method combines galvanic and thermolysis, using both heat and chemical action to destroy the follicle.

This creates a powerful, well-rounded treatment that’s especially effective on difficult hair.

Best for:

  • Deep, coarse, or curved follicles.

  • Areas with a history of shaving or tweezing.

What to know:

  • Excellent for facial and hormonal hair.

  • Works on all hair types.

4. Flash Thermolysis

Flash thermolysis is a modern, ultra-fast version of thermolysis.

It delivers a very high level of energy in an extremely short burst, destroying the follicle almost instantly.

Best for:

  • Dense hair growth.

  • Large treatment areas.

  • Quickly clearing hair.

  • Experienced electrolysis clients.

What to know:

  • Sessions move quickly.

  • Sensation is very brief.

  • Requires advanced training and precise timing.
